JWST reveals secrets of extreme debris disks

NASA's JWST studied 21 extreme debris disks, finding tiny dust grains that can grow surprisingly bright. Some disks contain silica from Mars-sized collisions, others from smaller moon-sized impacts. Silica-rich disks appear mostly around younger stars, suggesting stellar age influences debris composition, offering clues about solar system formation.
