K'taka records worst southwest monsoon since 1971 with 35% rain deficit

Karnataka has recorded its highest southwest monsoon rainfall deficit since 1971, according to the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre. The state recorded 35% below-normal rainfall during the southwest monsoon from June 1 to September 30. Previously, the highest monsoon rainfall deficit was recorded in 2002, when Karnataka received 33% less rainfall than normal.
