Indian Airlines Flight IC 814, en route Delhi from Kathmandu, was hijacked on December 24, 1999. Five masked men, reportedly belonging to Pakistani group Harkat-ul-Mujahideen, held the 176 passengers on board at gunpoint and forced the plane to reroute and eventually land in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The hostage crisis ended after seven days, when India agreed to release three terrorists.
