A man from Dakshina Kannada has successfully cultivated the rare Mooty fruit, an endemic species of the Western Ghats that is listed as Near Threatened by the IUCN. After planting more than 100 saplings three years ago, the trees have begun bearing fruit. The nutrient-rich wild fruit grows directly on the trunk and requires minimal maintenance.
