A Challakere teacher, named Vishwanath, won praise for honesty after finding a purse containing gold jewellery worth nearly ₹4 lakh and handing it to police. The valuables belonged to jewellery shop owner Suma Venkatesh, who had lost the purse while travelling on her scooter. Police tracked her phone inside the purse and recovered the valuables within half an hour.
