Kenya's outsourcing firm cuts 1,108 jobs after Meta ends contract

Sama, a Kenya-based outsourcing firm, announced 1,108 layoffs at its Nairobi centre after receiving notice from Meta that it will terminate content and data annotation contract. Notably, Meta and its local contractor Sama were sued by former content moderators over low wages and lack of mental health support. The moderators, from several African countries, are seeking $1.6 billion in compensation.
