Kerala CMO begins messaging campaign ahead of polls, HC asks how it obtained contact details

The Kerala High Court asked the Chief Minister's Office how it obtained private contact details of about five lakh people, including government employees, to send unsolicited, personalised WhatsApp messages ahead of the May 2026 polls. The court flagged privacy intrusion and directed an immediate halt to the messaging campaign. Kerala Congress alleged that CMO misused the official SPARK database.
