Kerala HC invalidates BJP councillors' oaths taken in names of deities, martyrs

Kerala High Court declared invalid the oath taken by 20 BJP councillors of Thiruvananthapuram Municipal Corporation after finding that they had sworn allegiance in names of various deities, political martyrs and movements. The court held that members must take oath either "in the name of God" or through a solemn affirmation. It also invalidated Congress Panchayat member Sunil Chuvattupadam's oath.
