Kerala looks to Central scheme, expansion to decongest its jails

The Kerala government is addressing overcrowding in the state’s jails, a senior official of the Kerala Prisons and Correctional Services told South First. Though jails are not severely overcrowded, efforts are on to provide relief to convicts or undertrials remaining in jail unable to pay fines or bonds. Steps to acquire land for new jails are being taken as well.
