Kerala's 1st liver transplant for propionic acidemia successful
A hospital in Kerala performed a successful liver transplant on a 2.5-year-old with rare propionic acidemia. The child, suffering recurrent life-threatening metabolic crises, received a portion of his mother's liver. Post the 8-hour surgery, enzyme activity was restored, preventing further metabolic and neurological damage, marking the state's first liver transplant for this disorder.
