Kirsty Coventry elected as 1st woman and 1st African IOC President
Kirsty Coventry has been elected as the tenth President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) at the 144th IOC Session. With this, Coventry, a former Zimbabwean swimmer, became the organisation’s first female and first African president in its 130-year history. She succeeds outgoing President Thomas Bach and will assume office on June 23, celebrated as Olympic Day.
