K'taka govt to rename 'Salaam Aarti' started by Tipu Sultan to 'Namaskara'
The Karnataka government has decided to rename 'Salaam Aarti' ritual started in honour of Tipu Sultan to 'Namaskara'. Hindu organisations were demanding a renaming of the ritual as, according to them, it was a symbol of slavery. The ritual was conducted in the famous temples of Puttur, Subrahmanya and others in the then Mysore kingdom.
