Kullu residents blame illegal construction as landslides kill 9

The slopes above Inner Akhara Bazaar in Himachal Pradesh's Kullu, once regarded as protective hillsides, are a looming danger. Since September 2, repeated landslides have claimed nine lives and flattened homes. For the residents, the disaster is not an accident of nature. It is the result of unchecked, unplanned and unauthorised construction that has destabilised the hillside.
