Kurmi community's 'Rail Roko' protest for ST status continues in WB

The 'Rail Roko' protest in West Bengal by members of the Kurmi community entered its second day on Wednesday. The protesters are demanding for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status and the inclusion of Kurmali language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution. The protesters blocked railway tracks at stations including Kharagpur, Khemasuli and Purulia, resulting in the cancellation of 53 trains.
