Land emits 20 times more microplastic into air than ocean: Study

A study published in Nature found that land releases over 20 times more microplastic particles into the air than the ocean. Using global measurements and models, they also found that emitted mass is higher over oceans than land due to the larger average size of oceanic particles. Microplastics, once airborne, can fall back to Earth, polluting oceans and soils worldwide.
