Land records not proof of Indian citizenship: Calcutta High Court

Calcutta High Court ruled that land records cannot prove Indian citizenship as foreigners can purchase property in the country. "Merely because a foreign national buys immovable property in India ipso facto does not make such purchaser an Indian citizen," the High Court said. The ruling came as HC dismissed land records of a man alleged to be a Bangladeshi national.
