Last living relative of the dodo spotted in remote rainforest
Samoa Conservation Society has confirmed sightings of critically endangered manumea, or little dodo, in remote rainforest areas, the first in over a decade. Scientifically known as Didunculus strigirostris, it is the sole surviving member of its genus and a close relative of the extinct dodo. Conservationists describe it as a living fossil, warning that its loss would erase a lineage.
