Last of Germany’s 1954 football world champions Horst Eckel dies aged 89

The last surviving member of West Germany's 1954 world champions Horst Eckel died aged 89, the German Football Association (DFB) said on Friday. Eckel was the youngest player in the 1954 FIFA World Cup final, where West Germany defeated Hungary 3-2. The 1954 triumph was Germany's first world title. Germany has won three more since, their last being in 2014.
