Romania's former King Michael I, who was forced to abdicate from throne after Soviets abolished the monarchy, passed away at the age of 96 in Switzerland on Tuesday. He had been suffering from leukaemia and skin cancer. He first acceded to the throne in the 1920s when he was six years old, and then again in the 1940s.
