Laws not meant to extort husbands: SC as it orders man to pay ₹12 cr to ex-wife
While dissolving a marriage, the Supreme Court observed that provisions in criminal laws are for protecting women and not "means to chastise, threaten, domineer or extort from their husbands". It also ordered the man to pay ₹12 crore permanent alimony to his estranged wife in a month. The estranged wife had sought a permanent alimony equivalent to her husband's wealth.
