Leander Paes won India's first and only tennis Olympic medal

Indian tennis player Leander Paes won India its first and the only Olympic medal in tennis in the form of bronze medal he won at the Atlanta Olympics on August 3, 1996. Paes won the bronze medal playoff match after having progressed to the semi-final of the men's singles tournament where he lost to eventual gold medallist Andre Agassi.
