Lebanese man who held up bank to access his own savings released

A Lebanese judge ordered the release of a man who last week took staff at a Beirut bank hostage for accessing his frozen savings. Bassam al-Sheikh Hussein surrendered after being permitted to withdraw $35,000, which he termed necessary for paying hospital bills. A crowd had gathered during the hostage situation with many chanting, "Down with the rule of the banks!"
