Lehman Brothers filed $639 billion bankruptcy 10 years ago

US banking giant Lehman Brothers Holdings filed for bankruptcy protection at 1.45am on September 15, 2008, declaring $639 billion in assets and $613 billion in debt. Lehman was the country's fourth-largest investment bank at the time of its collapse, with around 25,000 employees worldwide. Lehman's collapse is often regarded as the height of the US subprime mortgage-induced 2008 financial crisis.
