Licence may be suspended once driver gathers 12 points for traffic violations

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said traffic violations will attract penalty points under graded system and that a licence can be suspended for six months once a driver accumulates 12 points. Explaining the process, he said violations, such as driving the wrong way, would earn a point. He added repeated serious violations like drunk driving would lead to permanent licence cancellation.
