During the first Test of the 1979-80 Test series against England, then-Australian pacer Dennis Lillee played the first-innings on 14th and 15th December with an aluminium bat. A metallic sound produced on a Lillee shot prompted the English skipper to complain about the bat. Notably, during that time there was no such rule on the choice of willow for bats.
