Lionel Messi becomes first player to score 20 goals in FIFA World Cup history

Argentina captain Lionel Messi has become the first player (man or woman) to score 20 goals in FIFA World Cup history. Messi scored his 20th goal in the FIFA World Cup 2026 Round of 32 match against Cape Verde. Messi also became the first player in FIFA World Cup history to score in eight consecutive appearances.
