Liquor to get cheaper or costlier based on its alcohol content in K'taka
Karnataka will scrap government-controlled price caps on alcoholic beverages from April 2026 and introduce an alcohol-in-beverage (AIB)-based excise duty structure. Under this system, liquor will be taxed based on its alcohol content instead of price bands. The number of pricing slabs has also been reduced from 16 to 8 to give manufacturers greater flexibility to set retail prices.
