Lis Hartel won Olympic silver medal without legs

Lis Hartel, a horseback rider​ from Denmark won the silver medal at the 1952 Olympic Games without her legs. During her pregnancy in 1944, Lis contracted polio, which permanently paralysed her below the knees. One of the first women to compete against men in horse riding at the Olympics, Hartel was inducted into Denmark's Hall of Fame in 1992.
