Lok Sabha passes Bill allowing govt to permit charges on UPI transactions

Lok Sabha has passed a Bill amending the Payment and Settlement Systems (PSS) Act, 2007, giving the Centre power to decide which digital payment modes remain exempt from Merchant Discount Rate (MDR). This could pave the way for MDR on UPI transactions in future. MDR is a fee businesses pay to banks and payment service providers for processing digital payments.
