Loud orgies of Mexican fish could deafen dolphins: Study

US-based researchers recording the sound of a Mexican fish species have found their "stadium-like chorus" generated while mating is loud enough to cause at least temporary if not permanent hearing loss in marine mammals preying on the fish. The species, Gulf corvina, utter a mating call resembling "a really loud machine gun" with multiple rapid sound pulses, said the researchers.
