Lucknow researchers discover new shrimp species in Gomti River

Researchers in Lucknow have discovered a new freshwater shrimp species, Caridina sharmai, in the Gomti River. Named after carcinology pioneer Prof UD Sharma, the tiny crustacean has dark brown and yellow-grey stripes that help it blend into river shadows. The species is described as calm and social, living in groups and clinging to underwater vegetation while filtering food.
