A 100-year-old male tortoise from the Galapagos islands has been credited with the single-handed revival of its species from extinction, due to extensive breeding, reports said. Nicknamed Diego, the tortoise has fathered an estimated 800 offsprings, accounting for nearly 40% of the 'Chelonoidis hoodensis' species. Before Diego's repopulation, there were reportedly 14 living specimens remaining.
