Maha Assembly passes anti-conversion bill, proposes upto 10 yr jail and ₹5 lakh fine

Maharashtra Assembly has passed the anti-conversion 'Freedom of Religion Bill 2026', which proposes upto 10 years in jail and a ₹5 lakh fine for repeated violations. Those involved in unlawful conversions on the pretext of marriage will face seven years in jail and a ₹1 lakh fine. Mass conversions will have a seven-year jail term and a ₹5 lakh fine.
