Maha begins process to draft UCC, to be tabled likely next week

The Maharashtra government has initiated the process of drafting a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) proposal and plans to constitute an expert committee to examine the legal framework and related issues. CM Devendra Fadnavis also indicated a formal announcement could be made next week during the ongoing monsoon session. Notably, Uttarakhand, Gujarat and Assam have already enacted UCC laws.
