Maha village prohibits DJs & loudspeakers in weddings to save vultures
Chirgaon village in Maharashtra’s Raigad district has prohibited DJs and loudspeakers during wedding processions since 2002 to protect vultures. Vultures come to the village to nest and raise their young. Locals have also restricted use of firecrackers during festivals and other celebrations. The vulture population, which stood at 22 in 2002, rose to 347 in last census conducted in 2022.
