Maharashtra Assembly passes bill to protect acid attack victims’ identities

The Maharashtra Assembly on Wednesday passed the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Maharashtra Amendment) Bill, 2026, which criminalises the disclosure of the identity of acid attack victims. The bill also brings the use of social media and all forms of digital communication for issuing threats to upload or disseminate photographs, audio, or video under the category of sexual harassment.
