As the VHP is carrying out 'ghar wapsi' programs across India, Hindus in Maharashtra are planning to convert to Buddhism. Around 1600 families (nearly 6,000 people), have registered for the conversion. This includes a large number of OBCs, apart from a few Brahmin and Maratha families. Some Muslim and Christian families have also signed up for conversion to Buddhism.
