Maharashtra village gives up loud celebrations to protect vultures
Villagers in Maharashtra's Chirgaon stopped loud celebrations and began to celebrate with fewer firecrackers to protect vulture breeding amid its declining population. They also created feeding grounds for vultures and planted nearly 50,000 trees to provide them a safe nesting site. The villagers' efforts over the course of 25 years, raised the vulture population from 22 to 347 in 2022.
