Mahatma Gandhi began Dandi March on this day

Father of the nation, Mahatma Gandhi, started the Dandi March on March 12, 1930, in protest against the British monopoly on salt. The 24-day non-violent protest initiated the nationwide Civil Disobedience Movement against British rule in India. Around 78 people began the march from Sabarmati Ashram and walked 390 km till Dandi, Gujarat.
