Mass bleaching has left around 35% of the coral in the central and northern sections of the Great Barrier Reef off the Australian coast dead or dying, according to researchers. This marks the worst mass bleaching event to hit the site. Aerial surveys conducted earlier had found that 93% of the Great Barrier Reef has been affected by bleaching.
