Mamdani sworn in as New York's 1st Muslim mayor, takes oath on Quran

Zohran Mamdani took the oath as mayor of New York just after midnight on Thursday at a ceremony held at a decommissioned subway station in Manhattan. Mamdani, an Indian-origin Democrat, was sworn in as the first Muslim leader of New York. He placed his hand on a Quran, held by his wife Rama Duwaji, as he took his oath.
