Man gets 20 strokes of cane, 17 yrs in jail for rape in Singapore

A Japanese man has been sentenced to 17.5 years in prison and 20 strokes of cane in Singapore for "brutal and cruel" rape of an inebriated student five years back. The 39-year-old convict, Kita Ikko, will be the first Japanese national to receive caning in Singapore. Notably, Singaporean law calls for caning male convicts aged under 50 for various offences.
