Man kept in jail for 6 yrs without evidence, SC asks UP govt to pay ₹1 lakh for each year

Supreme Court directed UP government to pay ₹6 lakh to a man who spent six years as an undertrial before being acquitted in a 2019 murder-kidnapping case. Court said the man lost six years due to a "concocted story built on mere surmises and conjectures". It called UP Police's probe "slipshod", as "not even a rudimentary investigation was carried out".
