Man stops cyberattack by accident after his system lags for half a second

Microsoft developer Andres Freund stopped a potentially massive cyberattack by accident after finding his system running a beta version of Linux distribution Debian lagged half a second. He inspected his system to find the cause and found a malicious backdoor in a compression tool that made its way into widely used Linux distributions. The compression tool was XZ Utils.
