Mandela shared Nobel with the man who released him from jail

South Africa's anti-apartheid leader Nelson Mandela shared the 1993 Nobel Peace Prize with the country's then President FW de Klerk, who released him from prison after 27 years on February 11, 1990. The leaders were given the honour for "their work for the peaceful termination of the apartheid regime, and for laying the foundations for a new democratic South Africa."
