Mao proclaimed People's Republic of China 69 years ago

Communist revolutionary Mao Zedong officially proclaimed the existence of the People's Republic of China on October 1, 1949. Mao's proclamation came after the end of the civil war fought between the Kuomintang (KMT)-led nationalist government and the Communist Party of China (CPC). KMT leader Chiang Kai-shek fled to the island of Taiwan after the end of the civil war.
