Mars experienced catastrophic floods 3.5 billion years ago: Study

The European Space Agency (ESA) has shared pictures of the Martian surface, revealing that the planet experienced "catastrophic floods" 3.5 billion years ago. "Groundwater burst to the surface, carved a valley 10 km wide and 500 m deep, and then vanished," it said. The images reveal a landscape shaped by water, lava and time, the ESA added.
