Maser, microwave version of laser, made using diamonds

UK-based researchers have developed the first continuous room-temperature maser. Masers (microwave amplification by stimulated emission of radiation), were invented in 1954 before lasers but are not used widely because they need operating temperatures near absolute zero (-273°C). When placed inside a sapphire ring, the diamond generated continuous maser on illumination by a green laser light.
