Maths predicts humans could go extinct in 17,100 years
The doomsday argument, a statistical model, predicts with 95% certainty that humans will survive at most another 17,100 years. Developed from astrophysicist Brandon Carter's 1983 work, it assumes humans hold random position among everyone who'll ever live, estimating 2.34 trillion total births. Several scientists reject the argument, saying that it ignores real-world threats like climate change.
