Mayor defends ₹1-lakh bill for 130 kg bhajiyas in Surat, says 'High quality bhajiyas are costly’

After a row erupted over ₹1-lakh bill for 130 kg bhajiyas at a general body meeting, Surat Mayor Mayaben Mavani defended the expenditure saying, "Such high quality bhajiyas are costly." Noting the snacks were 'oil-free', Mavani said, "I myself consumed them...They were procured at ₹50/kg discount." People flagged how the snacks were generally available for ₹350-₹500/kg in the market.
